1st HDCC Workshop Summary, including keynote, technical, and case study summaries

David Garlan (Carnegie Mellon Univ.), Martin L.Griss (Hewlett-Packard), and Michael R. Lowry (NASA) are co-chairs of the first workshop, which is to be held at NASA Ames, Moffett Field, Calif., January 10-12, 2001.

The purpose of the workshop will be to bring together a significant cross section of the community to discuss the state of research and practice in building dependable systems, identify challenges for the field, and help define the future agenda of the HDCC.

We are inviting people with very different perspectives on these problems. Some sample software and system engineering perspectives include:

  • Engineering: "Use the best methods, process and tools"
  • Management: "Hire good people"
  • Design Tools: "Get it right the first time."
  • Testing Methods: "Test like hell"
  • Human-Computer Interaction: "Pilot Error"
  • Security: "Assume an adversary"
  • Longitudinal Studies: "Understand the problem
